Air Conditioning Unit Installation: Three Crucial Cool-Down Considerations

August 5, 2020
Advice

You have just heard the words you were hoping not to hear from your HVAC technician. “You are going to need a new air conditioning (A/C) unit.” We know,it does not top your list of “wants” when it comes to purchases. But you and your family want to stay cool in these hot, hot, hot Charlotte temperatures. So, be sure you make the right investment with a proper process by keeping these three considerations top of mind.

#1 Buyer beware: savings are relative.

When shopping fora new A/C unit, you might have a salesperson tell you that you will save $xxx on your monthly energy bill with their brand’s shiny new A/C unit. We all love to save a buck. The truth of the matter is that the Energy Guide/SEER information is only relevant if you correctly match this new A/C with a new indoor unit. Broken down a bit further: some companies install just an outdoor unit or just the indoor unit; if both are not done at the same time, there is not an Air-Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) - certified number for efficiency.

#2 Not all warranties are created equal.

Some companies use a third-party insurance plan that only covers warranty issues during weekday business hours. What happens when your A/C breaks during the weekend? Some companies only offer the manufacturer part warranty (five-year part only), and others add one-year labor as the installing dealer. The warranty can be restricted by the manufacturer for parts because the installing company is not a “certified dealer.”

We are so confident in the way we do things that we stand behind our installations for 10 years. That means parts and labor are covered for 10 years. Our warranty is provided by Charlotte Mechanical 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

#3 County inspections are required by state law.

Anytime you install new HVAC equipment, such as an A/C unit, state law requires a county inspection. These rules are in place for your protection, so ask your HVAC installation company if that is part of their process.

We are loyal rule followers, so we diligently abide by this law. We also would never want to put you or your family in harm’s way. Bonus: we use IBA inspections, which means the inspector only gives you a two-hour window when you need to be at your home versus all day. We respect that you live a busy life and cannot be at home an entire day waiting.
